Not Just A Mom Blogger

A few years ago i was reading some “tips” on how to be a great blogger! In those tips it said that : A. Keep you blog posts short B. Don’t try to be a WRITER C. Stick to daily life snippets..don’t go into politics, ethics, hot topics, pet peeves and so much more Well as i am fast approaching my two year blogging anniversary and my 200th post on this blog I have been thinking a lot about this lately. These guidelines were specifically laid out for “mom” bloggers. That’s when I started contemplating what exactly a mom blogger is ….I think it’s great to blog about your kids…I do some of that but I am a concerned parent. I love the Lord with all of my heart and I try with all of my heart to honor Him with all that I do…So here’s my problem with the title “Mom Blogger” and the afore mentioned guidelines. Politics, ethics and hot topics all affect my kids. they affect me as a parent. they affect my home life and everything that encompasses who I am. They affect my religion (notice i didn’t say faith). They affect my rights as both a human being and a parent. So many times people really want to hide behind their title as mom or parent and say I have to focus on my kids and don’t give a hoot about what is going on in the world around me. Perhaps this is why I like Focus on the Family so much. Dr. Dobson brings to light the things that our government tends to slip through under the table with out the rest of this world knowing! It is our right and responsibility to stand up for the decisions our government makes…If we don’t like it we need to exercise our freedom of speech..if we don’t it shows we don’t care..and that our freedom of speech means nothing to us. Perhaps maybe I have a little more understanding of this than some because I have had my freedom of speech taken away. I forfeited it when I chose to step on communist soil when I was 19. You don’t feel immediate oppression it’s when you start learning all the do’s and don’ts that it really hits you about what you have and just how blessed you are. Your rights as an American DO NOT follow you around the world! Can yo imagine being told that you can’t teach your kids until they are twelve about God…That means no church of any kind: or how about being told that you can only have one child….try picking which of your children you’d rather have, it’s just plain difficult; or better yet not being able to talk about God at all in any public place…that means no praying before meals. I am not by any means a conspiracy theorist or a pessimist but the reality is if we don’t stand up for ourselves we will not have the freedoms we now enjoy and very much take for granted. Just curious but when was the last time you called your state rep of congressman to let them know you did not approve of something being done by our government. I guess it has always been my motto that if I’m not willing to do something about it then I don’t have the right to complain about it. All of this being said, yes I am a mom and yes sometimes I blog about being a mom. But that is not how I define myself. That is not all of who I am. I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, pastor’s wife (when we eventually have a church again). I am a church member I am a voter a teacher, a Believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. I am a scrap-booker, an artist and a writer. I am a dreamer, a nature lover. I am a camper, movie goer, book reader. I am a citizen born and raised in the U.S.A. I am all of those things so I most certainly can’t and won’t limit myself to just one of those things. I love to do this (bog that is)! All of these things are why I blog!

Personal Bible Study Method

My Personal Bible Study Method

Ok so I do my devotions like this. I read and then I journal but I cannot count the times that I have longed for more. More substance something I can really sink my teeth into so to speak.

Well I was working through the Joyful Womans manual and I came across a great Bible study method that spells it out wonderfully. Then hubby (being the Bible scholar that he is) and I worked to modify it a bit. And this is what we came up with:

Studying the Bible

1. Write out each chapter or section first (this was suggested bt a professor of mine at Bible College& he was right you get so much more out of the text when you copy it word for word!)
2. read each chapter or section 10 times (I really like to use different versions. you really learn a lot)
3. What is the theme or main thought? There may be more than one.
4. What are the key verses to understanding this chapter/section? Be sure to understand them!
5. What persons are mentioned and what information is given about each?
6. Commands to follow?(C); Promises to be claimed (P); Lessons to be learned (L); Examples to Follow (E);
7. Are there any significant words repeated?
8. Any Words that need defining (think if you had students you were teaching)
9. What logical reason can you detect for the inclusion of this chapter/section in the Bible (this can be connected to #2)
10. What does the passage say about God the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit?
11. Write out a simple outline (also from #2)
12. read Study notes/ Commentary on the chapter/section
13. Notes or Ah-ha moments! What did you learn from the text personally?

i really love this method because i can break it up. It does not take very long but yet it gets you deeper in the word! Amazing!

Vacation Is Over!

So Here it is Ladies and Gentleman.
I took this break for a few reasons. I had somethings I really needed to do..home wise. Our basement project which I was really hoping to be done say Sunday will not be done until next week Probably Wednesday-ish photos will be posted!)

Then there were the kids..We started homeschooling Tornado and he has completed his second full week of Pre-K…we do three times a week . I have had to rework my schedule around this new item of joy. Tornado loves it and actually has been sleeping a lot better since we have been giving his brain a work out.

And then finally I have had some problems with wording some post idease i have had for some time..i guess writer’s block you could say….so what better to help with writer;s block is to get away from the problem. I was perhaps to hasty when i said no email or computer for a week. I forgot when i write that that hubby really counts on me to let him know when there is an amil he needs to respond to. So on Wednesday I started using the computer again!. I have been secretly reading all your blogs and catching up!!!

But no writing for me! That meant comments to other blogs or replies to email.. I really needed the clean slate to work with!

So the first post will be..NOT JUST A MOM BLOGGER

Then an excerpt from this will be used to replace my about me Section on my sidebar. Mentally i am still working on it so it could be later today or later tomorrow!

Anyway i just wanted to say i missed all of you very much and I hope you can understand my absence if not oh well.
